SPS 2024
Maxon showcases a humanoid robot and current product highlights at SPS
At SPS 2024 in Nuremberg from November 12 to 14, Maxon will present the first complete prototype of the humanoid robot HOPE. HOPE is powered by Maxon EC-i motors and in-house controllers. Rob Knight, the robot’s developer, will be present at the Maxon booth throughout the fair. Additionally, Maxon will showcase current highlights from its product range, including the new “Strain Wave” gear as a trade fair premiere.
Drives for robots are an important business area for the Maxon group. Maxon develops and manufactures custom components for autonomous mobile and industrial robots, such as humanoid, quadruped, or collaborative robots, as well as agricultural and service robots.
The practical application of Maxon drives is demonstrated by the prototype of the humanoid robot HOPE, which will be on display at the Maxon booth at SPS in Nuremberg along with its developer Rob Knight from “The Robot Studio.” Standing two meters tall and capable of moving freely and maintaining balance for up to an hour, HOPE offers exciting insights into its functionality. Visitors can interact with HOPE on-site.
HOPE can move thanks to Maxon drives. Each arm is equipped with four EC-i 40 drives. These are brushless motors with iron-core windings and an internal rotor, delivering high dynamics and torque in a compact space. Additionally, six EC90 flat motors are installed, providing high torque even in confined spaces. The drives are controlled by Maxon EPOS4 position controllers.
Further product highlights presented by Maxon at SPS include:
- Drives: In addition to the EC-i 40 mentioned above, the following drives will be on display: High Efficiency Joint 90 (a highly compact, integrated, and efficient robotic drive system that includes all subsystems for a complete motion solution, such as electronics, motor, gearbox, and sensors), ECX Prime 6 and 16 (brushless BLDC motors with high torque and high speeds), and ECX Flat 22, 32, and 42 (flat motors with an external, multi-pole rotor, particularly suitable for confined spaces).
- Gearboxes: As a pre-premiere, Maxon will present the new “Strain Wave” gearbox, which will be available next year and stands for high precision and compactness.
- Controllers: Maxon will showcase ESCON2, the further development of the proven controller product line, now also available for highly miniaturized applications.
- Other highlights: Also on display will be the heavy-duty motors from Parvalux by Maxon, technical ceramics, and the Maxon E-Bike drive Bikedrive Air.
