Frequency converters
More flexibility for plant design
With a new offering, Nord Drivesystems provides greater design freedom in plant engineering: A modular system consisting of decentralized drive electronics and efficient motors offers complete consistency. This is based on the Nordac Link and Nordac On frequency converters, which now feature identical communication and safety functions. This makes them highly versatile.
The extensive intralogistics systems of e-commerce providers, parcel distribution centers, and airports benefit from space-saving, decentralized drive solutions. However, planners are often limited in their plant design: If frequency converters for wall mounting or motor mounting have different safety and communication features, additional installations become necessary. With its new modular system, NORD offers users decentralized drive electronics that they can use seamlessly across all applications.
Enhanced Communication and Safety Features
The modular system includes Nord's asynchronous IE3 and synchronous IE5+ motors, as well as two distributed frequency converters at its core: the Nordac On, with a power range of 0.37 to 3.7 kW for wall mounting and motor mounting, and the Nordac Link, with a power range of 0.37 to 7.5 kW for wall mounting. Both feature identical communication and safety functions, which Nord has significantly enhanced.
Seamless Integration into Safety-Related Applications
The frequency converters have onboard Ethernet and are compatible with PROFInet and EtherCAT. Both the Nordac On and the Nordac Link can be seamlessly integrated into safety-related applications via Profisafe or FSoE. An extended package of safety functions is already integrated: STO and SS1-t (each according to SIL3 / PLe) as well as SS1-r, SLS, SMS, and SSM (each according to SIL2 / PLd) are implemented without an encoder. Safety-related components such as emergency stop buttons or light barriers can be directly connected thanks to safe inputs and outputs.
Sensorless Control of Dynamic Applications
The Nordac On and Nordac Link enable sensorless control of the highly efficient IE5+ synchronous motors, even for dynamic applications. The CFC open-loop injection method allows for starting with a 150% overload and achieves more dynamic accelerations through short ramp times. The method achieves high energy efficiency, especially in the partial load range. Since no encoder is required, the CFC open-loop injection control saves on material and installation costs.
Slim System Designs with Less Wiring
With the new modular system, users gain greater flexibility in system design. Thanks to its consistent functionality, they can easily choose between frequency converters for motor mounting or wall mounting. The integrated functions also significantly reduce wiring effort, simplifying installation and maintenance. Ultimately, NORD thus enables less complex, streamlined architectures with an expanded performance range.
