Australia plays an important role in the global expansion of renewable energies. Against this background, the German drive specialist Flender is further expanding its production and service capacities on the continent with the opening of a new location in Sydney.

The installed base of Flender's Winergy brand wind turbine drives is one of the largest in Australia. With the new opening, Flender aims to increase its local presence and customer proximity. The same applies to the portfolio of industrial drives, which is successfully at home in many Australian industries such as mining, cement, ports and more. The new buildings set the industry standard for customer service in these sectors, where Flender's gearboxes and couplings power some of the heaviest machinery in Australian industry.

Andreas Evertz, CEO of the Flender Group: "We see enormous growth potential on the continent for both our wind and industrial businesses. In order to achieve the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement, we not only need to expand renewable energy capacities, but also transform our industries towards sustainability. This includes recycling and building a circular economy. Our workshops are perfectly equipped to service and overhaul the existing installed base, not just for our own fleet, but for all types of gearboxes on the market."

The Sydney buildings are over 1,800 square metres and have the structural capacity for a 50-tonne crane. They have all the equipment required to deliver OEM standards to customers. Flender is able to repair gearboxes up to 40 tonnes as well as components such as main shafts for wind turbines, lubrication systems, fluid couplings and brakes. Sydney is Flender's fourth service centre in Australia, alongside locations in Rockhampton, Perth and Melbourne. The latter is part of the acquisition of the Finnish wind gearbox manufacturer Moventas in 2022.

Kareem Emara, Managing Director of Flender Australia and New Zealand: "It is important to be close to our customers. With the new location in Sydney, we are even more flexible and can respond to requirements as quickly as possible. We have been active in our industries for many years. With our OEM knowledge and technical expertise, we can proactively support our customers."

Flender service locations are designed to support the entire life cycle of a product, from installation to decommissioning and overhaul. With its AIQ digital drive intelligence, Flender also offers digital services that enable preventive maintenance and maximise plant availability.
