Joint development of modern geared motors

Joint development of modern geared motors

The main goal of the collaboration between Mitsubishi Electric and Tramec is the joint development of modern geared motors based on Mitsubishi Electric's highly efficient EM-A series synchronous motors. This will expand the product range to include components for customers seeking high-quality drive solutions and improved energy efficiency.

Mitsubishi Electric has entered into a strategic partnership with the European gearbox manufacturer Tramec. The contract, officially signed on May 22, 2025, covers the development and supply of gearboxes for EM-A synchronous motors. With this collaboration, the company is expanding its portfolio to include complete geared motor drive systems that combine highly efficient IE5+ motors with high-performance gearboxes.

The partnership not only strengthens Mitsubishi Electric's position as a provider of integrated drive solutions but also specifically addresses the growing demands of the European market for energy efficiency and sustainability. In the future, Mitsubishi Electric will be able to offer its customers customized, complete solutions comprising automation, mechanics, and mechatronics from a single source.

Independent of global supply chains

Mitsubishi Electric has chosen to partner with the European gearbox manufacturer Tramec. Tramec's strong reputation in the European market, its global focus, and its proximity to the European value chain through development and production sites in Italy were decisive factors. This enables efficient collaboration and a flexible, responsive supply chain.
The answer to the Net-Zero Challenge

According to the Manufacturing Momentum Report 2025, 40% of manufacturers see achieving net-zero as a key challenge. Since electric motors are responsible for around 70% of global industrial electricity consumption, efficient drive solutions are becoming increasingly important. The new partnership helps address these challenges with high-performance, resource-saving solutions.

Benefits for OEMs and Operators

Original equipment manufacturers benefit from stable speed control under changing load conditions, higher energy efficiency, and a simplified machine architecture through sensorless positioning. For end users, the integrated solutions mean lower operating costs, increased reliability, and reduced maintenance requirements – important factors for economical and sustainable production.

The combination of EM-A synchronous motors and Tramec gearboxes offers numerous advantages for both original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and end users: OEMs benefit from stable speed under varying loads, increased energy efficiency, and simplified machine architecture thanks to sensorless positioning – enabling a more reliable and cost-effective design. End users benefit from lower operating costs, reduced maintenance, and improved system reliability throughout the entire lifecycle. Consistently high production performance also supports the requirements of modern, sustainable manufacturing processes.
