Local engineering for the Chinese market
At the end of September, Schunk opened its new location in Shanghai with a grand opening, accompanied by a 'Smart Manufacturing Summit' and 'Tech Days'. The company aims to use local engineering capacities to serve the dynamic Chinese market particularly quickly and appropriately. The focus is on automation applications to increase productivity in the growth sectors of electronics, automotive and life science.
China has been an important growth market for the technology pioneer in clamping technology, gripping technology and automation technology for many years. In order to secure a successful position there in the future, Schunk is investing in the expansion of skills, technologies and capacities and opened a new 7,200 square meter location in Shanghai at the end of September. Dr. Simon Du, General Manager Schunk China says: "We are building up local engineering expertise with local added value in order to implement ideas quickly and to develop specific solutions in direct contact with our customers and partners." In addition, a fully equipped robot application center "CoLab" is available, in which automation concepts can be validated together with experts from Schunk.
From battery technology to e-drivetrain
The Shanghai location offers Schunk's entire product portfolio, but focuses specifically on customers and applications from fast-growing industries. New Energy Vehicle (NEV) has been playing a crucial role for some time. The automation experts provide productivity-enhancing solutions for all components in electric vehicles, from battery production to the e-drivetrain. Kristina I. Schunk, CEO of Schunk, emphasizes: "The consistent positioning on the Chinese market makes our company strong for the future. The Shanghai location is integrated into an international network with which we can serve our customers optimally."
Grand Opening
The opening celebrations took place from September 25 to 28, 2024. The guests were given exclusive insights into the variety of Schunk applications, from automated machine loading to industry-specific solutions for e-mobility and electronics. On the fourth day there was an open house event for the employees' families.
