New location for factory automation in India

In June 2022, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation announced that it would invest around €21.8 million in its subsidiary Mitsubishi Electric India Pvt. Ltd. A new production site in India is planned, which is expected to go into operation in December 2023.

The focus will be on drive and control technology for factory automation (FA). This will enable the company to respond flexibly and locally to the increasing demand on the Indian market. This is growing at an annual rate of around 8 %, especially in sectors such as the automotive industry, the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries, data centres and the textile industry. Forecasts predict continued strong market expansion in the future.

Mitsubishi Electric has been active in factory automation in India since the mid-1990s.  With the acquisition of a local manufacturer of FA components in 2012, the company was able to strengthen its local business structure. In addition to building up a local engineering team, service and support capacities were expanded. Local production then began in 2013.

The planned factory will be two-storey and 15,400 square metres in size. It is spread over a 40,000 square metre plot of land near Pune, Maharashtra. The new building will also support the "Make in India" initiative promoted by the Indian government.

Sustainable and environmentally conscious production

As part of its commitment to sustainability and environmental awareness, it is important to Mitsubishi Electric that the construction of the new factory is environmentally friendly. This means, for example, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by using highly efficient air-conditioning systems and LED lighting systems. It also aims to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by, for example, reusing wastewater through underground filtration and greening.
