Change in GMN's management: As of April 1st, Dr. Jens Falker has succeeded Dr. Edgar Verlemann, who is leaving the machine tool manufacturer after almost three decades in a leading position. The management team now consists of Dr. Jens Falker as Managing Director with a focus on technology and Managing Partner Michael Lösch.

Dr. Falker has been with GMN since 2020. He was initially responsible for the development and engineering of spindle technology. Most recently, he assumed technical leadership of all business units, which include spindles and high-precision ball bearings, freewheels, and seals.

Excellence down to the last detail is GMN's vision.

He sees the structural transformation in the manufacturing industry as a key challenge for the coming years, a transformation he intends to shape and facilitate with GMN. The changes in industry, for example through digital technologies, are ubiquitous. Keeping pace there plays an important role in his view, “but our core competence has been mechanical precision for 118 years. We develop, manufacture, and integrate precision solutions for perfect operation – in partnership with our customers and suppliers worldwide – that is our mission.”

Falker sees the high level of vertical integration as a key competitive advantage. It enables the company to react quickly to market demands. A particular advantage for him as an engineer is being able to test the company's own products under real-world conditions during production. This is because the company manufactures them on machine tools that are themselves equipped with GMN spindles. “In this way, we create precision solutions that ensure our customers' machines run perfectly anytime, anywhere.”

He is confident about the future of Germany as an industrial location: “We are always successful when we focus on our strengths and consistently invest in research, product development, and collaborations.”

A Passion for High-Performance Components

Dr. Falker's passion for high-performance components for machine tools is a constant throughout his career. Falker has been with GMN since his studies in industrial engineering and mechanical engineering at RWTH Aachen University, where he also earned his doctorate. At the university's Machine Tool Laboratory (WZL), his research focused on high-speed rolling bearings and the design and calculation of spindle-bearing systems.

Dr. Edgar Verlemann (almost) retires after nearly 30 years

Dr. Edgar Verlemann has shaped GMN's technical direction for decades. He joined the company in 1997 as Production Manager; from 1999 until March 2026, he served as Technical Director. During this time, he spearheaded internationalization, and GMN opened service and sales locations in the USA and China. This success story also includes several expansions of production capacities at the Nuremberg site and the growth of the workforce from 270 to 470 employees today.

With Dr. Verlemann has also further developed the lean methodology in ball bearing manufacturing for the GMN team, advanced motor spindle technology to the point of digital interfaces, and opened up new markets with the integration of GMN freewheels into e-bike applications. He will not be retiring completely just yet: as coordinator for the construction of a new production building for ball bearing manufacturing, he will continue to support GMN until the end of 2027.
