The traditional family business Mayr Antriebstechnik has been serving the Indian market since the 1990s through a sales partnership with a local authorized dealer. The global company has now opened its own production facility in Halol near Vadodara in the state of Gujarat.

Mayr Antriebstechnik thus manufactures safety brakes and clutches directly on site for the local market, which ensure safety and reliability in machines and systems. The emerging economic area of India has now arrived in the high-tech segment in many areas.

Mayr Antriebstechnik has opened the next chapter in the company's more than 125-year history. After the headquarters in Mauerstetten, Bavaria, Ostrzeszów in Poland (1994) and Zhangjiagang in China (2006), the traditional medium-sized company opened its fourth production facility in India at the end of 2024. "With the plant in Halol near Vadodara, it is not even so much about breaking new ground in India," explains Thomas Gebler, Director Sales for Mayr India. "We have worked successfully with a local sales partner there for more than 30 years. This valuable foundation has ensured that we have continued to develop and that our brand has achieved a certain level of recognition. Now the time was ripe for the next step."

Local value creation

With local production, the specialist for safety brakes, safety clutches and shaft couplings is now meeting the requirements for Mayr products "made in India" and is thus serving the Indian market directly. "We are concerned with local value creation and being able to supply the local market competitively," explains Ferdinand Mayr, CEO of the Mayr Group. The emerging region has already reached the high-tech segment in many segments, and applications in the field of robotics or medical technology, for example, are on the rise. "The global economy is in constant change, currently more than ever," summarizes the CEO. "Market development here is sometimes like a balancing act that needs to be mastered."

Products meet the same high quality standards worldwide

Mayr Antriebstechnik sees itself as a component manufacturer with the highest quality standards, because the products stand for safety and reliability in machines and systems. "With our strategy and our different plants, we are well positioned to master the complexity and different technology levels," explains Christian Tanner, Director of Operations for Mayr India. "By having the same test benches in the plants, we can guarantee high quality standards locally and at the same time also realize cost potential for local markets." Thomas Gebler draws his conclusions about the advantages of German-Indian cooperation and the objective: "We are combining the strength and meticulousness of us Allgäuers with the forward-looking drive of our Indian colleagues to conquer the market with the highest growth rates in the world. Both sides can learn from each other here."
