Acquisition
Strengthen expertise in customized system solutions
Whether for shore power supply for ships or charging infrastructure for heavy-duty vehicles and machinery, there is a demand for robust systems that can reliably transmit high power while offering operational flexibility. To better provide customers with tailored system solutions for demanding applications—ranging from shore power and charging infrastructure to other specialized industrial sectors—Igus is acquiring Krott Electronic GmbH, effective October 1, 2026. Based in Stolberg, the company specializes in custom connection technology for niche industrial applications.
High mechanical loads, harsh environmental conditions, and long operating times are part of daily life in sectors such as tunneling, mining, offshore operations, the oil and gas industry, and port infrastructure. Ensuring the safe and reliable transmission of energy and data under these conditions requires perfect coordination between energy supply systems, cables, and connection technology. As demands for availability, flexibility, and efficiency rise, so does the need for customized system solutions. At the same time, the energy transition is driving the growing importance of new application areas, such as shore power for ships and charging infrastructure. This is precisely where the acquisition of Krott Electronic comes in: Igus is strategically expanding its expertise in industrial connection technology and further developing its project-based systems business.
Acquisition pools expertise for new system solutions
For over 60 years, Igus has been developing and manufacturing motion components made from lubrication-free, low-wear high-performance polymers. Its portfolio includes energy chain systems and the *chainflex* cable range, which is designed for continuous movement within energy chains. Igus’s solutions evolve continuously in step with changing customer requirements. The company sees particular potential in the shore power sector; Igus already offers mobile systems that allow container ships and cruise liners to be flexibly supplied with shore power while docked. Krott Electronic’s connection technology adds further expertise for demanding applications to this portfolio. Founded in 2000, the owner-managed company employs seven people. It develops and markets connector systems, connection housings, and custom assembly solutions for low- and medium-voltage applications, fiber optics, and data communication, as well as ATEX-certified products.
New competence area for specialized connection technology solutions
By acquiring Krott Electronic, Igus strengthens its position as a provider of integrated systems for energy supply, cable technology, and automation, while expanding its range of solutions for industries with the strictest requirements regarding connection technology, system availability, and robustness. As part of the acquisition, effective October 1, 2026, Krott Electronic GmbH will be integrated into Igus SE & Co. KG. The employees will join Igus. Current Managing Director Jan Krott will also remain on board, taking charge of the new "Specialized Connection Technology Solutions" division. This ensures the company’s long-standing expertise is preserved and integrated even more closely with Igus’s capabilities. Jan Krott comments: "Over many years, we have built up extensive know-how in the development and manufacture of custom connection solutions for demanding industrial applications. As part of Igus, we can now link this knowledge even more closely with expertise in energy supply and cable technology to develop innovative system solutions precisely tailored to our customers' needs."
Michael Blass, CEO of e-chain systems at Igus, says: "The acquisition of Krott Electronic enables us to strategically expand our portfolio of custom connection technology. The company has successfully established itself in the market with solutions for niche industrial applications. This acquisition allows us to address the specific needs of highly specialized industries more effectively and drive forward future-oriented solutions for our customers in the context of the energy transition."
