At Nord Drivesystems, environmentally conscious, responsible and honest action is at the heart of the 2025 sustainability strategy. A cross-departmental team as well as the management and ownership are involved in the implementation. In addition to NORD's products, it included four other fields of action.

"Our 2025 sustainability strategy is a promise to our customers, to the public and to ourselves to act consistently in an ecologically, economically and socially responsible manner," emphasizes Carolin von Rönne from the Process and Organization Development & Corporate Sustainability department at Nord Drivesystems. It comprises five central aspects:

Products

At NORD, products also come first when it comes to sustainability. This is because the design, life cycle and areas of application have an impact on the environment. The idea of sustainability is therefore already anchored in the product development process. "Drives can be found in many areas of industry, where they consume a large proportion of the energy used," explains Carolin von Rönne. "We want to use efficient drive solutions such as servo drives to achieve the highest level of environmental sustainability." B. the IE5+ synchronous motor can significantly contribute to a reduction in energy consumption and CO₂ emissions." In addition, the Nord Eco-Service supports companies in finding the most efficient drive solution for them.

Governance & Processes

Sustainability management was introduced at NORD in 2022. Since then, the company has achieved important milestones such as an annual sustainability report according to GRI, environmental certifications and the integration of international structures. The central task in this field of action is to establish an international governance structure and a CSRD-compliant reporting system for the entire Nord Drivesystems Group with 48 subsidiaries in 36 countries - because the success of other factors depends on this - especially the environment, energy and climate.

Environment

In order to coordinate structured measures and document them in a legally compliant manner, international environmental management is essential for NORD. This is implemented according to ISO14001 for the largest subsidiaries. In addition, the carbon footprint for Scope 1-3 is determined across the group. Other goals of the Nord Drivesystems Group are lower energy consumption, reduced waste generation, increasing the proportion of self-generated electricity and the use of renewable energies. Existing biodiversity areas are to be further expanded.

People

In times of a shortage of skilled workers, NORD is continuing to increase its attractiveness as an employer. The company is currently rolling out a digital learning management system worldwide to give all employees the opportunity to receive individual training. Further targeted campaigns and measures are also intended to promote diversity in the workforce. "Inclusion, respect for human rights, strengthening our work culture, safety and continuous knowledge transfer are just a few of the topics that we would like to advance," says Carolin von Rönne.

Supply chain

Nord wants to give its customers and employees the assurance that sustainable production is given great attention both in the manufacturing plants and in the upstream supply chain. Risk analyses and other processes are carried out within the framework of the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LKSG).
