Perfect for limited space

Applied Motion Products Inc. (AMP) is expanding its TSM StepServo motor line with a brand-new, truly miniature NEMA 8-sized model – the smallest all-in-one servo motor, drive, and controller combination.

The TSM08X3L-R, available with full support from McLennan, is ideal for distributed motion control applications where space is limited. It offers higher accuracy, acceleration, and torque than open-loop stepper motor solutions, while significantly improving energy efficiency. Measuring just 61 mm long, with a 16 mm square mounting footprint and a 20 mm square frame, the compact motion solution offers various external control modes, integrated I/O, and programmable on-board memory for maximum application flexibility. Powered by an external 24 VDC supply, the TSM08 offers a holding torque of 0.05 Nm and a torque boost of 30% (0.5 seconds).

A 16-bit single-turn magnetic absolute encoder with a resolution of 20,000 counts per revolution enables static positioning accuracy of up to ±0.018°. Real-time position correction provides improved dynamic accuracy. Operating modes for this all-in-one motion solution include two RS-485 ports for configuration, programming, and daisy-chaining for Modbus RTU, as well as communication with PLCs and HMI devices. The TSM08 is also standalone, utilizing AMP's Q programming software with preprogrammed command sequences stored in non-volatile memory for motion, I/O, conditional processing, multitasking, math functions, and more. Four high-speed (1 MHz) digital inputs and two digital outputs (5–24 VDC) enable the connection of pulse and direction signals, limit switches, quadrature encoder signals, PLC outputs, sensors, and other signal types.

The TSM08X3L-R is available in two versions: a single-connector or a multi-connector model (power, I/O, and communications). The latter simplifies daisy-chain configuration and Modbus RTU setup. Configuration of the integrated TSM motor is simplified by AMP's StepServo Quick Tuner package, which is integrated with the Q programming software. Compatible power and daisy-chain cables enable straightforward commissioning. McLennan adds compatible motion and automation controllers, precision gearheads, or other ancillary components as needed.

AMP's TSM Series integrated StepServo motors are also available in larger frame sizes from NEMA size 11 to 34, with torques up to 8 Nm, motor speeds up to 3600 rpm, and encoder resolutions of 20,000 pulses/revolution. Thanks to a wide range of control and interface options, including Ethernet, EtherNet/IP, and CANopen, as well as the features mentioned above, the series is suitable for a wide range of motion control applications. Mclennan offers comprehensive support for AMP's extensive product range. The Hampshire-based motion specialist also maintains distribution partnerships with select manufacturers of motion control components and systems. With its own comprehensive design and manufacturing services, Mclennan offers stepper motor, servo motor, and other motor-based automation solutions – from individual components to complete motion-based subsystems.
