As “hidden champions”, couplings ensure reliable power transmission. Not everyone is aware of their full range of applications, but everyone relies on them: from aviation to laboratory technology, from mining to rail technology, from wind turbines to water treatment plants.

R+W offers a wide range of couplings for almost every application. Within the individual product groups there are standard models that can be described as secret favorites because they are used in many places and have real fans among designers across all industries. Here we present two of these all-rounders from the field of precision couplings.

Backlash-free precision

Metal bellows couplings impress with their highest precision and are used where positioning accuracy is the top priority: in medical technology, in test benches, wind turbines or highly dynamic servo axes of tool, woodworking or packaging machines and much more. Regardless of whether for small or large tasks - R+W offers metal bellows couplings in a wide variety of designs. Depending on the model, they ensure torque transmissions of 2 to 10,000 Nm. The BK5 model is the proven flagship among metal bellows couplings. It is pluggable, absolutely backlash-free, wear- and maintenance-free and easy to install.

Dynamics meets damping

The main advantages of elastomer couplings are vibration damping, backlash-free and electrical insulation. Based on the group of claw couplings, however, the elastomer coupling has a crucial additional component, its actual heart: an intermediate plastic segment made of elastomer between the two hub halves. This elastomer ring transmits torques of 0.5 to 25,000 Nm without backlash and compensates for axial, lateral and angular shaft misalignments. It optimizes the entire drive train and ensures damping,

torsional rigidity and temperature resistance. This damping is particularly important in systems with frequent shock, alternating or vibration loads. The EKL model with clamping hub in particular is a true all-rounder that is suitable for a wide range of applications and impresses with features such as short design, pluggability, low mass inertia, vibration damping and ease of installation.
